Effective counseling requires an understanding of the major concepts and practices of contemporary therapeutic systems as well as an overview of developmental and psychopathological issues presented by clients.
Students in the Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy course will learn several different foundational theories that counselors and therapists incorporate into their practice. This course will allow students to explore these different theories and find one that resonates most with them. Once they have built a solid theoretical foundation for their professional practice, students will have many opportunities to apply their learning through practical settings in future courses.
